“ Great place to stop for lunch on the way to Savannah!! Shrimp and grits were amazing and great service ”
“ Delicious food and great service. We head the raw oysters and blackened shrimp - entire meal was excellent! ”
“ After a hard mornin' in the duck hole and a less than fruitful afternoon of wetting a line and sit in the deer stand, the fellas and I decided to make the 25 minute drive from our remote fish camp upriver down into Darien for supper. Boy am I glad we did because Skipper's served up some seafood and service I won't soon forget. While January is not a busy time of year for tourists in coastal Georgia, Skipper's must be on their A-game year round. Our crew of four exhausted and grizzled young men sauntered in for some post-hunt grub and drinks. We were happily greeted and sat in the near empty restaurant and admired the nice fish and large alligator on the walls. I wasn't a huge fan of the music pouring from the kitchen, which consisted of new pop and punk; I think some 70's country or at least Alan Jackson would have matched the aesthetic a bit better. However our server quickly took our drinks and rang in some oysters for us (the one good thing about coming this time of year should have been the oysters on the half shell, but to our dismay they were out of raw unshucked oysters!). I asked to speak to Skipper about the matter and was told he was out of office, but our server did get us some fresh grilled oysters that were juicy and fresh and everything you'd want in an oyster. Served with lemon, cocktail sauce, crackers, and a delicious house made remoulade, out of the three of us who ordered dozens not one oyster went uneaten. I went with a shrimp platter with sides of cheese grits and collards as my entree, while my mateys ordered the scallop platter and I think two mahi and crab cake combos. Our server checked on us with great frequency, and kept my Diet Coke topped off as well as the beers of my colleagues. After our delicious oysters, we were excited for our main courses, and before we knew it out they arrived! Not much to even say here, the shrimp were delicious, crispy, and not overcooked, and the sides were outstanding. I also heard great reports of the fish and crab cakes; there was not one complaint of a piece of shell being in one of these cakes, so I assume they're made with some quality control. I tried a seared scallop from a friend's plate and it was excellent: firm enough, yet buttery and tender. Overall, I would definitely come back to Skipper's again, especially when it gets a bit warmer and Darien gets more of a crowd. This spot did, however, lose a star due to the 4% credit card fee (ridiculous policy), lack of raw oysters, and poor kitchen music with none in the dining room. Outside of those minor issues, we had some great food and definitely enjoyed the dockside aesthetic of Skipper's Fish Camp. If you do drop in, I hope you're lucky enough to get served by Marissa, she did an excellent job! Perfectly attentive, never annoying but always on top of it! Hopefully next time Skipper will be there for me to personally thank him, but for now I will thank all of Skipper's for our great experience. ”
“ What a great stop on our way to southern Florida -- literally minutes off of 95 and right on the water. They have seafood and bbq so take your pick, along with a decent selection of beers on tap Hubs and I opted for the grouper sandwich (if you come on the weekend make sure you ask as it's not on the menu). Comes with one side and a good size portion. It was a beautiful November day so we opted to sit outside. Blackened Grouper sandwich with Sweet-water 420 on a beautiful day on the water. How great is that? Would definitely recommend and thank you to Jordan and the other waitstaff for taking such good care of us. ”
“ Nice atmosphere, service was excellent!! I ordered the fried shrimp, it was just ok but the onions rings...wow...they were one of my favorite. My husband got a sample plate and loved it all! ”
“ Nice little spot with fresh seafood. Great service. Nice environment with inside and outside seating. ”
“ Wow! It was a 45 minute wait on a Friday night but it was so worth it!!! I had the 1/2 and 1/2 and got fried shrimp and oysters. They were so fresh and tasty. I tried the hush puppies and they were not too heavy. The cheese grits were my first side and they were good but the server recommended the sweet potato soufflé and WOW! I was planning one bite because I was getting pretty full but after that bite, I could not stop because I was trying to figure out how they were made. The had a stronger cinnamon flavor and they were extremely light and fluffy. I have never had sweet potato soufflé like that. They were so good and not overtly sweet. The staff and servers were super friendly and the wait went by fast because you can go outside and walk around the boats. The parking lot was full but I was able to find a spot. It was worth the trip and the wait!! ”
